Beyond/ Before the cap and Gown
Justen Ransom embarked on his path to becoming a successful producer after graduating from UWG in the fall of 2015. During his time at UWG, Ransom took several journalism courses, some of which he never thought he would use.
Writing The Script to Success
Ransom never thought he would use the skills learned from a news writing class. He wrote scripts for class and for his role as an anchor and multimedia journalist at WUTV. Initially skeptical about the relevance of writing skills to his intended role as a producer, Ransom soon realized how instrumental the skills were in his professional journey. He discovered that these writing skills played a pivotal role in his overall success.
From the Classroom to the Newsroom
Since graduating, his ability to write news scripts made him an asset in the industry. Currently, Ransom is the senior morning producer for Atlanta News First WANF, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta. Ransom produces the 6am newscast as well as facilitates which stories each reporter will be covering every morning.
Little did I know, for the better part of the decade since graduating, writing scripts is 95% of what I do every day. My professor's knowledge and guidance inside and outside of the classroom is a massive part of why I am working in one of the biggest news markets in the country.
