Darryl's dream

Darryl's vision

Born in Harvey, Louisiana  Darryl’s fascination with storytelling began early, shaping his career path as he pursued his dreams in the world of news.

developing a passion for journalism

At UWG, Darryl's interest in journalism took flight through his involvement with the university's student-run television station WUTV, It was here that he first explored the art of reporting and anchoring, taking on various roles that helped him develop a keen eye for news and a talent for storytelling. His time at WUTV was marked by a deep commitment to his craft and a passion for mentoring fellow students, laying a strong foundation for his future career.

Surpassing all expectations

He began as a reporter for WAKA/WNCF in Montgomery, Alabama, where his award-winning reporting quickly garnered attention. His ability to cover impactful stories with integrity and depth earned him recognition from the Associated Press and the Alabama Broadcasters Association.

Darryl then moved to NBC 6 WTVJ in Miami, where he reported on major events including the 2016 election campaigns, several hurricanes, and breaking news such as the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the Florida International University bridge collapse. He also made his mark by co-founding and hosting ‘The NBC 6 Breakdown,’ a segment that tackled issues affecting millennials, showcasing his innovative approach to journalism.

Continuing to thrive

In 2021, Darryl joined CNN as a National Correspondent for CNN Newsource. His role took him across the country, covering high-profile stories such as the White House under both the Biden and Trump administrations, the 2020 Election, the California Wildfires, the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, the George Floyd protests, and more. His dynamic reporting brought critical stories to light, earning him accolades and solidifying his reputation as a leading journalist.

Today, as the morning anchor for WDSU, Darryl continues to build on his impressive career, delivering news with the same passion and dedication that marked his early days at WUTV. His journey from a university student with a dream to a respected news anchor is a testament to his unwavering commitment to journalism and his ongoing dedication to serving his community.
